ArcGIS Pro: Attribute Rule Configuration

Introduction:

This course provides a practical introduction to attribute rules in ArcGIS Pro, covering how they can be used to automate data entry, enforce business logic, and improve overall data quality within a GIS database. Learners will explore the three primary rule types — calculation, constraint, and validation — and will be guided through hands-on walkthroughs configuring real-world examples relevant to telecommunications GIS workflows. Topics include automatically generating formatted identifiers, counting related records for use in feature labels, enforcing spatial proximity constraints, working with the Arcade expression builder, and understanding trigger configurations. The course also emphasizes best practices such as adding comments to expressions, saving edits before entering the Attribute Rules window, and leveraging AI tools and search engines to build expressions without prior coding experience. By the end of this course, learners will have the foundational knowledge and hands-on experience needed to begin incorporating attribute rules into their own geodatabase environments.
